Why buy firewood from BC Sands?
It is the firewood we reject that makes our
firewood the best!
We don’t sell old railway sleepers, We
don't sell tree surgeons offcuts. The sources we
use for our firewood are legitimate logging
companies with appropriate forestry licences
from the state government to carry out firewood
harvesting.
We are no backyard operation! BC Sands is a
founding member of the Firewood Association of
Australia and we have proudly been selling
quality firewood for more than a decade.
Take advantage of
our early bird offer.

Pilliga firewood is harvested
for the Pilliga region of north western New
South Wales. The climate of this area
promotes slow growth annually so trees from
this area take years to reach maturity. The
growth rings which can be viewed when logs
are cut at 90 degrees shows tight thin rings
indicating the yearly growth. Because of
this slow growth the timber is very dense
& hard. What does this mean for you I
hear you ask? The dense logs burn
slowly & higher heat output is
produced. While slow to initially start
burning (open your flue & let the fire
become well established before cutting back
the flue air supply) the Pilliga will burn
hotter for longer than other Australian
hardwood species.
This is the firewood that BC
Sands has been famous for selling for the
last 20 years. Ironbark is the premium of
Australian hardwood timbers & has a
dense grain (not as dense as Pilliga!) &
is slow burning & has a high heat
output. If you love the ambiance of
beautifully burning fireplace, Pilliga &
our ironbark fire woods are the ideal
choices.
New product last season to BC
Sands & proving to be a popular product,
bought as is, or in conjunction with a bulk
bag of one of the premium firewood's above.
Our budget firewood as the name suggests is
cheaper but the heritage of the timber is
still our Australian Hardwoods. The ironbark
content of our budget firewood is greater
than 50%! Why is it cheaper you ask? No it's
not because its inferior but because the
wood is a by-product of sawmill timber. Saw
mill offcuts are sawn instead of split which
means they are dimensional as the chart
above shows. The budget firewood end section
is square or oblong & doesn’t have the
same look as traditional split firewood.
Budget sawn offcuts are a great economical
alternative or addition to our split
firewood. Only available in one size -
typically stove size and smaller & bulk
bags are 400kg. As with our
Pillaga & ironbark, our budget
firewood conforms to all FAA (Firewood
Association of Australia guidelines).
